I've always said practice makes permanent (I think I first heard that from my French horn instructor in High School). How you practice is how you will perform and since no one is perfect, their performance is instead a reflection of their level of practice.

I have always denied that practice makes perfect, only perfect practice makes perfect. We can certainly practice something wrong. I like evaluated practice!

I like evaluated practice makes better even better! Great Post! Thanks.

Great suggestion on self-evaluation. I've begun doing this recently, and it has been very helpful.

However, for me at least, I have to wait at least a year before I can evaluate a particular message. Otherwise, the message is too fresh, and I am still inside my own head.

After a year though, I have mostly forgotten what I said, and I can listen to myself as if I am sitting in the pew listening to a guest speaker. Much easier for me to identify problems and quirks that way.
