Hi Peter,

Been enjoying browsing your site.

Another advantage we have found to consecutive preaching of biblical books is that you have to deal with the whole counsel of God and avoid riding "hobby horses". It means that at times you have to deal with thorny issues you might have rather avoided but faithfulness to the flow of the book requires that you tackle them.

Series of messages can be a great help in gaining a well-rounded contextual understanding and in rightly dividing the Word of Truth.

Thank you for your post!

Amen Peter! I enjoy reading your blog posts and often copy and forward them to fellow preachers. In my church I just started a series in Colossians. It is so helpful for me to know what I need to preach on any given Sunday. I broke up the book into preachable chunks and then created a preaching calendar. This shows me that the series will go into the end of August. What do you do if a special need arises in the church? do you stop the series and address the issue? Some have said that setting up a calendar quenches the Holy Spirit from speaking something different since it is all planned by the preacher already. What do you think about that? Also, do you think people get bored for lack of variety? I fear sometimes that some will think, "Colossians again?!"
